Dear Ones,
How blessed we are to have the power of our individual and collective voices to get us through these times. Last week as the fire evacuation line crept closer to our neighborhood, and friend after friend reported loss in the mountains, in moments, I felt quite anxious - so much so, that I even forgot to sing - at first.
But then in one miraculous moment, I found myself humming. As the humming became more and more conscious, I began to feel the vibration of my voice and the depth of my breath calling me present, calling me home to the center of the storm. I sat down on the edge of my bed and just rocked and hummed until I felt calm. I then had the presence of mind to pray, and spent the rest of the day singing as I readied myself for
potential evacuation. What a gift!
Singing, and close contact with my loved ones has gotten me through this tragic time for our beloved Santa Cruz community. And so it continues... our mountains are still on fire, there is still so much loss, but the fortitude and generosity of the firefighters and the people in our community gives me hope. We will get through this, we are getting through this, together.
For all of you dear ones out there who have experienced loss or displacement because of these fires, my heart is with you. I'm trusting that you are feeling held by your friends and community. And please remember to reach out.
We want to help you!
I hope you'll join us tonight for some singing! Let's tend to the tender hearts, and feel the healing power of our collective voices. Kate and Sarah are the perfect souls with the perfect songs for this moment.
