Susan Robbins is the Founder and
Artistic Director of the internationally
renowned world music & dance
ensemble Libana, which over the
past four decades has
illuminated the creativity,
vision and spirit of women worldwide.
Susan has also been a dedicated teacher --
inspiring singers as a
private vocal coach,
leading many singing workshops
and weekend vocal retreats,
and presenting at National Music Educator Conferences,
Music and Healing Conferences
and colleges/universities
nationwide.
Her deepest sanctuary has always
been in Singing Circle’s with women --
facilitating heart connection, healing,
peace, empowerment and deep communion
through vocal unison and
harmony.
Now leading women in song over zoom,
her deep belief remains strong that
singing helps connect us to our soul,
soothe our anxious spirit,
renew and replenish our vitality,
heal our ragged hearts,
and realign with the power of hope.
And singing helps us envision, intend,
and strengthen our resolve to create
the more just world we want to live in!
Roberta Kirn is a song leader, percussionist,
and dancer who has been leading
community singing for over 20 years.
She is the founder of BeWellSing,
through
which she brings singing in
community to as many people as she can.
Her most important teachers have been
Ysaye Barnwell and Bobby McFerrin.
Roberta has traveled to Haiti, Africa, Brazil,
and Europe
as part of her Song Exchange Project,
teaching and collecting songs to share at home
and wherever she travels.
Her most recent travels took her to a retreat in Brazil,
to study vocal improvisation and body percussion
with the teachers of Musica Do Circulo.
Roberta shares easy-to-learn songs and
chants from around the world,
including songs from African, African American,
and folk traditions, as well as songs in French,
Creole, Sanskrit, Hebrew, and more.
There is usually a strong emphasis on
rhythm and movement and becoming
more grounded in the body as well
as an exploration of harmony through
songs with few words but many interlocking parts.
