Hello Radiant Beings of LOVE!
I want to share my story of falling
in love with my voice again after
loosing my way for a few
years...
As a child I absolutely loved to sing.
(Shocker, I know, 😂
but there’s more to the story)
I sang for the pure joy of it,
and I learned to follow
my mom’s beautiful example of completely
feeling and embodying every single word
as she sang inspiring
lyrics
from contemporary artists,
and healing hymns of her Christian tradition.
I also had the
incredible opportunity to
sing in community with Bob Reid
who taught me the power of singing songs
with others about our concerns for the planet,
and about hope and the human experience.
But then as an adolescent,
I learned quickly that I could gain
recognition from others by singing.
I was a very shy, quiet and withdrawn kid,
and folks were just in awe when
I opened my mouth to sing.
And I began to crave that attention.
So in high
school and college
I completely dove in.
I studied both jazz and classical vocal
performance technique,
played numerous lead roles
in musical theater productions,
studied with all the best voice teachers,
and sang in every ensemble
and choir that I could.
I grew immensely in my musicality,
which was fun and challenging
at the same time,
but over time my singing
became more about
gaining the approval of others,
rather than singing for my own enjoyment.
When I graduated from college,
I
had grown weary and took a year off
from singing entirely,
and even labeled it as
“something I used to do and enjoyed -
don't ask me about it or I'll get defensive,
then go have a good cry about it later.”
I had lost my way...
Until I discovered
the practices of yoga,
chanting, and meditation
in my early twenties
when I began the
journey of falling
in love with my voice again.
I learned to be every bit as mindful
and connected with my singing
as I was with these other practices.
I also began singing
from the depths of my authentic heart
with my a cappella trio Dis Moi,
and what we created together was
as close to heaven as humanly possible.
Do I have a witness out there?
In my late twenties,
I began my studies with Silvia Nakkach,
and she led me on an even deeper journey
with my precious instrument
through vocal meditation, mantra,
and raga singing.
In my early thirties I studied
with Valerie Joi Fiddmont,
who taught me the power
of infusing my singing
with my intentions and prayers,
and the power of singing to praise God / Life -
an echo of what my mom modeled for me.
And viola!
I had fallen in love with my voice again!
Every nuance, every sensation,
every healing vibration,
every ripple of the love in my heart
became a pleasurable experience again.
And it was for ME,
not for the approval of others.
And so I continue my life's path
of singing for the pure pleasure of it,
and delight in inviting others to
join me on the journey!
It is the culmination of these life
experiences with my voice
that guided me to offer the first
Art of Mindful Singing course in 2018.
Here, we remember how to
fall in love with our voices
from the inside out…
to sing from a deeper
and more connected place,
to be present, to embody, to feel, to pray,
and to sing for the pure pleasure of it!
The Art of Mindful Singing is an
experiential course in the
fundamentals of effortless singing
woven with vocal meditation.
I absolutely adore teaching this course,

"I must say, I have gotten TONS more
out of a single session in the
Art of Mindful Singing course
than
I have through all my weeks of private lessons."
"I always felt that singing could
be
both a spiritual and deep somato healing practice
and longed for a teacher to guide me
into the art with this as a focus.
Heather’s approach supports this in spades.
I’m so grateful.”
